MCI / history of ideasHistory of ideas
Meridian methods were not introduced fully formed. They were discussed, narrowed, retained and handed between practitioners until a useful distinction became ordinary practice.
CONTINUITY REVIEW COUNCIL / NOTE 24Interpretation changes. The record remains.
Current methods preserve earlier observations without requiring every generation to use the same language.
1988 → 2024 / MPSOrdinary Position
The term developed from an early distinction between established location and repeated use. MPS-P-88 separated stability, return certainty and the position established through ordinary use. The 1994 clarification narrowed positional variance; the 2016 handoff revision added observed-use language. Modern PCP reconciles the continuity tradition with the use-pattern tradition.

2009 → 2023 / MQTSequential Occupancy
Meridian’s earlier managed-waiting notes described duration and availability. MQT-P-09 separated order of use from dwell and established recognition before sequence. The 2011 method added approach, entry, advancement and departure. Older terminology remains in the archive because it describes an earlier observation, not an error.

Pre-2018 → 2024 / MAAmbient Continuity
Before Meridian Ambient became a division, background conditions appeared as notes attached to placement and materials work. The 2005 neutral-field review made ambient interaction explicit. In 2018 the practice became formal; SCR-6 later placed atmosphere beside position, sequence, persistence and response.

1997 → 2022 / MBIOrdinary Actuation
Button & Interface moved from measuring activation to measuring confidence. MBI-P-97 distinguished mechanical movement from recognizable response. OAI retained force and repeatability, then added familiarity and ordinary-use confidence. The activation tradition and confidence tradition remain visible in the current method.

Meridian Fellows are referenced for work that survived the originating assignment. The tradition records influence rather than rank.
